Thanks to a partnership between the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation and Rainbow Communications the Amelia Earhart Airport will soon have access to high speed fiber internet service. Rainbow Communications plans to extend the recently completed fiber infrastructure at the Shannon Industrial Park to create the four mile connection needed to serve the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport. The Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation expects to have the fiber internet service in place later this year as construction on the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum finishes.
“The Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation is delighted to partner with Rainbow Communications to supply high quality fiber and internet to our AE Hangar Museum,” said foundation President Karen Seaberg. “The buried fiber will not only benefit the museum, but also the Airport and residents along 286th Road, bringing fiber that much closer to the City of Atchison.”
The fiber internet service will provide up to 1 GB / sec upload and download speeds. The Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation is contributing $171,602 toward construction to make the project feasible.
“Fast, reliable internet, economic development and community development, to name a few, come with the future proof technology of a Fiber Optic Network,” Smith said. “Rainbow Communications is excited about the opportunity to partner with the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation to provide this service.”
