Land at Shannon Industrial Park Sold to New Rebar Company - Bottorff

Land at Shannon Industrial Park Sold to New Rebar Company

A new development project in the Shannon Industrial Park was announced Wednesday that has the potential to bring eight to ten jobs to the Atchison community in the next few years.

The Atchison Area Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) recently reached an agreement to sell Lot 2-E at the park to Integrity Reinforcing Bar, Inc., a startup rebar manufacturing company owned by the Bottorff Family of Atchison County.

Integrity Reinforcing Bar, Inc is scheduled to construct a new facility in the park in the next six months. The project aims to hire 3-4 full-time employees at the onset, with the potential for eight to ten employees in the next few years.

The Bottorffs also own Bottorff Construction, a concrete construction company that employs about 90 people and has been in business since 1982.

“Our goal is to have it running by February so we can be ready for our first big push of the year in March,” President Justin Bottorff said.

Bottorff said the company will buy rebar in long lengths, cutting and bending it to suit projects for his construction company and any others who do jobs of similar sizes.

This project represents the fifth major development in the Shannon Industrial Park in the past few years. Direct Mop Sales built and opened a new facility in the park in 2016. Northwest Pipe Company was sold and became Atchison Tubular Services in 2017, and now employs more than 50 people. In early 2018, the City, the County, and Rainbow Communications teamed to install 1 GB/second fiber throughout the park. Most recently, the City agreed to a multi-year lease with Westar/Evergy to use a lot in the park as a materials storage yard for an upcoming electrical transmission line project.

“This is another in a line of wins for the Shannon Industrial Park and the City of Atchison,” Assistant City Manager Justin Pregont said. “We're really lucky to have the Bottorff family in our community. Their entrepreneurship has been such a critical piece of our progress in recent years."
