Atchison has a long, illustrious history that history stretches from Lewis and Clark, to Amelia Earhart, to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. We celebrate our history, but more than that we celebrate local business. Atchison’s business history might be as impressive as its roots in exploration and transportation.
Many local businesses have been around for multiple generations. Bradken, MGP Ingredients, Blish-Mize, Berger Company, Atchison Globe and Exchange National Bank are just a few examples of businesses that have been in operation in Atchison for at least 75 years. And those don’t even include two of our biggest local employers, Benedictine College and Atchison Hospital, which have a combined over 260 years in operation.
Those companies – and many other local businesses – have adapted and evolved throughout the years and appear primed to carry our community well into the 21st Century. One reason for that is the resolve and work ethic that permeates this Missouri River Bluffs city. Another reason is the business friendly environment fostered by local government. A profusion of programs from all levels of government have been repeatedly used to help this community grow.
More than that, the dynamic culture and interest in getting businesses started and seeing them succeed has become one of our calling cards. Whether you need resources, investment capital, expertise navigating business tax credits and grant programs or just a cadre of like-minded entrepreneurs and many levels of corporate leadership, Atchison is a place where many business dreams can come true.
